You may have noticed that we describe Inherit Magazine as being curated by Jewish followers of Jesus. For some readers, that phrase feels familiar. For others, it raises a lot of questions. So let'sunpack it.
There are several ways people describe this identity. Some call themselves Messianic Jews. Others prefer Jewish Christians, Jewish followers of Jesus, or something more inventive (our editor is partial to Jewnicorn). The labels vary, but the idea is the same: these are people who were born Jewish and have come to believe that Jesus is the long-awaited Jewish Messiah.
It’s not actually anything new. Jewish people have believed in Jesus since the very beginning—after all, Jesus himself was Jewish, as were his first followers. Today, that story continues. In the United States, about 19% of those born Jewish say they believe Jesus is the Messiah.
